BISHOP ROGERS: Supreme Court - Justice & Judgment
March 28, 2006
THE SUPREME COURT 2– The recent word we had from the Lord about the Supreme Court is extremely significant. The Courtroom deals with justice and judgment. The Lord is speaking to His Church about these two truths.
When I began to research this I found that first of all justice and judgment are almost always used in the same sentence. Justice has to do with what is right and judgment as to what correction or punishment is decided against those who have stolen or opposed those rights. Truly this is of the utmost important to the believer who is crying out to God in prayer.
The first time justice and judgment are used together is in the instance where God is about to judge Sodom and Gomorrah.Gen 18:17-20
17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
KJVOne of the most significant things about this passage is this – although the Lord is ready to judge Sodom and Gomorrah he is seeking for someone who will “intercede” first for these two cities. Whenever a truth is mentioned for the first time in Scripture that truth is carried thru the rest of the Bible. So that we can be sure that anytime justice and judgment are recorded in the word of God. God always desires fervent intercession to precede that judgment. Watch as Abraham hears about God’s plan and his response to the Prophetic information.
Gen 18:23-19:1
23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
26 And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:
28 Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
29 And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake.30 And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
31 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake.
32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.
33 And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place. KJV
Abraham reveals Gods’ heart for the true Prophetic Intercessor. In fact, is that not what intercession is all about? Standing in the gap for someone else?
The honor of receiving Prophetic information that others do not have can be a very heady thing. It would be easy to become inflated with pride and easy to become judgmental. Yet the very nature of intercession is the opposite. Yes the very nature of God is opposed to this attitude. The cry of God when judgment is eminent is.2 Peter 3:9-10
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish , but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
KJV
Rom 2:4-6
4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who "will render to each one according to his deeds":NKJV
Now that we have established that God’s desire to bring justice and judgment to the earth is always preceded by seeking out those who will pray and weep for those who are about to be judged. Let us go on to see the significance of these two words. First the word justice.
Justice -
mishpat (4941), “judgment; rights.”
. This word has two main senses; the first deals with the act of sitting as a judge, hearing a case, and rendering a proper verdict Eccl. 12:14 is one such occurrence: “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”
Mishpat can also refer to the “rights” belonging to someone (Exod. 23:6). This second sense carries several nuances: the sphere in which things are in proper relationship to one’s claims (Gen. 18:19—the first occurrence); a judicial verdict (Deut. 17:9); the statement of the case for the accused (Num. 27:5); and an established ordinance (Exod. 21:1).
4941. מִשְׁפָּט mishpâṭ, mish-pawt’; from 8199; prop. a verdict (favorable or unfavorable) pronounced judicially, espec. a sentence or formal decree (human or [participant’s] divine law, indiv. or collect.), incl. the act, the place, the suit, the crime, and the penalty; abstr. justice, incl. a participant’s right or privilege
I believe that because of all the prayers and intercessions that have been going up to God continually. Because of the finished work of Jesus Christ and because God is a Just and Holy God. The Church has come into a season when God is ruling on behalf of the saints. This is the time to press your case to the holy God if Israel. Whatever Satan has tried to steal, kill or destroy from you your family your church or your Nation – God has chosen to rule on your behalf in His holy courtroom. Yet it seems even more than this, in that God is giving to his Church the right to make these “verdicts” based on His word. We are being called to present our case before the throne of God. Bring God’s beloved word before the throne .
Yet just as in the case of the Supreme Court we must have agreement. There must be an agreement of two or three in order for us to release the judgment God has already rendered against His enemies. That is the purpose of this Web Site – for God’s children to hear the word of God and come into an agreement with one another by speaking and prophesying that word.Matt 18:19-20
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
KJV
Remember that your enemies are God’s enemies and His enemies are our enemies. There is no difference. Those who are resisting us are resisting God.
